Earlier today, we reported that Days Gone had debuted on top of weekly UK retail sales charts, where it had beaten out competition from fellow debutant Mortal Kombat 11. But it seems like Mortal Kombat 11 isn’t the only major release Days Gone has managed to outperform in terms of sales. As Eurogamer reports, it is the biggest retail launch for a video game in the UK in 2019 so far.
There is, as always, one caveat to this- these figures don’t take digital sales into account, and only include sales data for boxed video game sales. Even so, it’s an impressive achievement, especially when you look at all the major releases we’ve seen in 2019 so far- the likes of Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, Metro Exodus, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Far Cry: New Dawn, The Division 2- these are all games that Days Gone has managed to outperform in terms of launch week physical sales.
Days Gone has received somewhat lukewarm reviews at launch, with primary criticisms being directed at its generic nature and a lack of technical polish. Our own review cited the same issues as well, but praised its emergent systemic gameplay and found the overall experience to be an enjoyable one. Read our review through here.
