The sales for the standalone version for Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ, which recently went live on Steam, have reached 800,000 copies and grossed over $12 million thus far. The open world zombie survival horror title released less than a month ago for PC.
Speaking on Reddit, creator Dean “Rocket” Hall stated that, “We (Bohemia and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already, however this amount of sales was completely unexpected. Honestly, 250K within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy.”
As for whether this will speed up development, Hall stated, “We’ll be finalizing our road-map in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that road-map.”
DayZ first made headlines when it achieves 88,000 units sold within the first 12 hours of going live. It’s been nothing but successes since then. What are your thoughts on DayZ? Has it lived up to your expectations? Let us know in the comments below.
