DayZ to Feature Content Updates, Vehicles, Camping and Bases in Future

Dean Hall answers questions about future additions to DayZ.

DayZ has been a smashing success on Steam since entering Early Access – it managed one million units sold within the first month of its release, despite still being in alpha stage.

Creator Dean Hall recently hosted a Reddit AMA session and provided some updates on new content to hit the open world zombie survival game. For one, there will be content updates but for how long depends on developer Bohemia Interactive. “There will be content updates and such for DayZ for a long time, I believe. However that would be up to Bohemia for the most part. I’m not sure I would (not want to) be super involved with that.”

As for vehicles and bases, Hall provided some specifics on their current progress. “Vehicles will be done based on the architecture we are doing for items/weapons now (i.e. attachments). So it’s in progress really. We are replacing the physics system for items (throwing, etc…) and this new middleware will be used for vehicles also.” And don’t be shocked but, “Bases will take longer. Barricades will happen first.”

There are also plans to allow players to camp, which has been inspired by a certain mod for Skyrim. “We have a plan for camping. Playing that mod for Skyrim (survival mod, forget its name) is GREAT inspiration and I hope we can do everything it has.”

What are your thoughts on these additions to the game? Of course, if you have any questions, hit up the AMA and ask away.
