Though we remain almost completely in the dark about what Death Stranding is and what we should expect from it, we have heard plenty of people showering plaudits on the game based on what they have seen from it, including the likes of Remedy Entertainment’s Sam Lake, Guerrilla Games (who shared their Decima Engine with Kojima Productions for the game), and others.
Recently, Norman Reedus, who plays the protagonist in Death Stranding, was interviewed by Metro and asked about his experience working on the project with mastermind Hideo Kojima, and he had nothing but good things to say, similar to his co-star Mads Mikkelsen’s recent words. “That guy is such a genius, Hideo Kojima,” said Reedus. “I’m like, ‘Oh so they’ll be playing me?’ And he’s like, ‘No they are you. We will make them cry as you.’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? It’s a video game.”
Reedus went on to talk about the game itself, which, in his words, is positive, but depressing and scary, all at the same time, with a concept and central premise that is way ahead of its time, echoing his own earlier statements. “The concept is so far out into the future. Instead of eliminating everyone around you, it’s bringing everyone together,” he said. “It’s a very positive video game, but scary and depressing at the same time. ‘It’s kind of a new movie. I’ve never seen anything like what we’re doing.”
According to Reedus, though people have been poring over every last detail in all the trailers that have been shown off for Death Stranding so far, that only begins to scratch the surface for what he says is “a crazy complicated game”.
“He keeps telling me people will watch all these trailers, they’ll come up with these ideas and look for all these Easter eggs, and they have been doing that,” he said. “The trailers show you an aspect of it, but not a whole picture of what the game will be. That’s like a whole other thing. It’s complicated, it’s a crazy complicated game. I’ve been learning a lot about video games doing it.”
Death Stranding is scheduled for an exclusive PS4 launch- but we don’t know when. Norman Reedus said not too long ago that the game might be out as soon as this year itself, while Kojima has also teased the same– though he then went on to say that it’ll “take while”, so take from that what you will.
