Death Stranding’s Decima Engine Has Undergone Modifications, Not A Simple Case of Borrowing

It's a collaborative relationship.

Hideo Kojima will be using Guerrilla Games’ Decima Engine for his upcoming cerebral looking action game, Death Stranding; however, Kojima being Kojima, he will not be satisfied with simply borrowing other people’s technology wholesale. Rather, the Decima Engine is more like a base to him, which will be built upon and modified in accordance with Kojima Productions’ requirements for Death Stranding.

“The latest teaser trailer runs on the Guerrilla Games engine, but we’re aiming for a different visual style than Horizon Zero Dawn, so many modifications have been made. It’s also not just a simple case of borrowing the engine from Guerrilla Games; they said that they want to collaborate with KojiPro,” Kojima said in recent interview, explaining the relationship that Decima shares with Death Stranding, and Kojima Productions with Guerrilla.

That sounds just as well- Kojima, of course, is an auteur with a vision. He can’t and won’t stand for being restricted by the available tools he has. If he has to make new ones himself to achieve what he wants, he will do it. So this does not surprise me one bit. Death Stranding is due to launch on PS4 and PC… at some point or the other.
