Destiny Could Still Come to PC

Maybe with the sequel, at this point.

The one thing that never made any sense was why Bungie’s shared world shooter, Destiny, never came to PC. The game was announced with Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 versions, like most games, but a PC version never materialized, in spite of intense speculation. It makes no sense, especially, when you consider the kind of game that Destiny is, and how much of a market there would be for it on PC. It also makes no sense when basic things like Destiny‘s UI seem to indicate that the game may have been designed for the PC from the outset.

Two years since launch, and four expansion packs later (with a fifth one on the way), most people have given up hope on the game ever actually coming to PC at this point (it also helps that Destiny is widely considered to be disappointing). However, speaking to Gamespot, Bungie director Christopher Barrett said that Destiny could still one day come to PC, although it’s nothing that the studio seems to be actively engaged in at the moment.

“No updates on that today, but we’re always looking at what platforms make sense for Destiny,” Barrett said.

If it were to happen at this point, my guess would be that it happens with Destiny 2, which is due out some time next year. It would not make much sense to bring it out on PC now, with the original game set to be superceded by its sequel in very short order. It’s just unnecessary effort and costs.
