With cross platform play between the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of most major third party multiplayer games becoming the norm, I suppose it was only natural to ask if Diablo 3 on the Nintendo Switch, which was announced earlier today after a fair bit of leaks and rumors, would have cross play with at least the Xbox One version of the game. Cross play with PC seems like it would be out of the question, given different versions, and control schemes- but for Xbox and Switch, it should be manageable, right?
Speaking with Eurogamer, senior producer Pete Stilwell said that cross platform play for Diablo is something the company is very interested in, and something that it is exploring- but, without shutting the door on the possibility of it happening in the future entirely, he also said that for now, it wouldn’t be happening.
“[Crossplay is] not available at this time. I wouldn’t ever take anything off the table, it’s something we’re exploring, that we’re interested in. But it is not currently a feature,” he said.
So that’s that- for now, it looks like Switch owners will have to play with other Switch owners. Diablo 3 launches on Nintendo Switch later this year.
