UPDATE: We have received a statement from Blizzard regarding cross-platform implementation in Diablo 3: “While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time.”

Following Sony’s about turn on their stance on cross-play, we’re now seeing more and more games considering the possibility of including support for it across all systems. One such game is Blizzard’s dungeon crawling RPG, Diablo 3.
Speaking to Business Insider, Blizzard representative confirmed that they’re working on cross-play support for Diablo 3. Though they haven’t announced anything official yet, they’re working with both Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-platform play for the game in time for its looming Nintendo Switch release. According to the Blizzard rep, it’s only a matter of time. “It’s a question of when, not if,” they said on the issue.
Given the massive player base Diablo 3 has across all the systems it is currently available on, as well as how reliant it is on multiplayer mechanics, the game would benefit greatly from having cross-play enabled. Here’s hoping Blizzard make an official announcement sooner rather than later.
Diablo 3 is currently available on PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360, while it’s slated for launch on the Nintendo Switch with Diablo 3: Eternal Collection on November 2.
