DiRT Franchise Has Also Been Internally Cancelled by EA Alongside Project CARS – Rumour

It seems like EA is axing Codemasters' DiRT IP as well, with DiRT Rally morphing into WRC titles going forward, and the arcade-like DiRT titles being shelved.

EA recently made the announcement that it had made the decision to no longer support and invest in Slight Mad Studios’ Project CARS franchise, stating that it saw the series as unlikely to become sufficiently successful and fit within the rest of EA’s racing games catalog. Alongside that, however, it seems another major racing property under Codemasters’ ownership has been shelved as well.

As reported by Insider-Gaming’s Tom Henderson, it seems like EA has internally cancelled the long-running DiRT franchise as well. The rally-racing focused DiRT Rally titles are apparently viewed as redundant, seeing as Codemasters will be releasing officially licensed WRC titles starting in 2023. Meanwhile, the arcade-focused DiRT games seem to have no future at the company either.

A report earlier this year (also written by the aforementioned Henderson) claimed that Codemasters had cancelled DiRT Rally 3.0 in favour of ramping up development on 2023’s AAA WRC title. Read more on that through here.

EA or Codemasters have yet to make an official statement regarding the status of the DiRT franchise.
