DiRT Rally Targetting 1080p and 60FPS on Both, Xbox One and PS4

Unlike so many other multiplatform games, the console versions of Codemasters acclaimed DiRT Rally will try to hit a consistent 1080p and 60FPS on both, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. However, if there are problems with maintaining the resolution, Codemasters may opt for going for dynamic resolution on the Xbox One, instead of just downgrading the game to 900p.

“We’re very, very close on PS4 [to 1080p/60fps]”, Codemasters’ Paul Coleman said at a briefing attended by VideoGamer.com last week. “We’ve still got a little bit more work to do on Xbox One. But, you know, I think that’s fair to say that for everyone out there, PS4 is certainly a little bit easier to get this stuff running smoothly. That’s not to say that we’re not going to try and get as close as we can with it [on Xbox One].

“[Hitting the target on Xbox One is] looking a bit touch and go,” Coleman admitted. However, he also stated that they will opt for a dynamic resolution solution in case they can’t achieve consistent 1080p.

“We don’t want to just drop it across the board,” he said. “I think we’re going to look at the troublemaker scenarios, like heavy snow on certain tracks or rain on Rallycross races, and we’ll do it where we need to do it. But ultimately I want to be running at 1080p/60fps wherever we can.”

It sounds like a more sensible solution than just gutting the game to 900p- but let’s hope they can just achieve the 1080p resolution that they are aiming for, instead!
