Dishonored 2 Testers Already Combining Powers in Shocking Ways

Doppelgangers, razormines and much more are being used to devastating effect.

We haven’t had too much opportunity to see Arkane Studios’ Dishonored 2 in action but play-testers are already having fun with the abilities on offer. According to game director Harvey Smith while speaking to OXM (via GamesRadar), some of the power combinations have been shocking the developer.

“We love it when our powers have flexible utility. We already have some startling ways that people have combined them that have shocked us. This is the emergent gameplay thing that we all love.”

For example – Emily Kaldwin can combine Domino to link two enemies together with a doppelganger, thus linking said enemies to the latter and killing the doppelganger to kill them. Another example, as explained by lead designer Dinga Bakaba: “Someone at Arkane came to me a while back with a question: ‘Should spring razormines be triggered by your doppelganger?’.

“Usually I don’t answer those questions except to say ’why do you ask?’ And he said ‘I summoned my doppelganger and I tried to place a mine nearby because I wanted to do a trap, but I actually put the mine on the doppelganger.’ So when the enemy arrives they run after her and – bam! When they catch up, they explode in gibs. If it’s occurred to the player and if it’s fun, we tend to embrace it.”

Dishonored 2 will be showcased at Bethesda’s E3 showcase on June 12th and releases on November 11 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
