Larian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin 2 has finally released after a year in Steam Early Access and two years after its initial Kickstarter campaign. With a larger scope, full voice-acting and so much more, it’s being met with positive sales. Studio CEO and owner Swen Vincke told Eurogamer that thus far, sales for Divinity: Original Sin 2 were already close to 500,000 units.
Though a number of people bought the game while it was still in Early Access, roughly 180,000 more copies were sold since the official launch. Vincke noted that, “It is fantastic, but it is also way beyond what we expected. We’re close to hitting 500K units sold which is a number I believe took us two or three months with Divinity: Original Sin 1.”
As for whether sales on the PC would help push for the console releases, Vincke noted that, “As for the console versions, we’re now focused on delivering our first patch for the PC version, something that is scheduled for this week. Lots of players means lots of support issues coming in and we’re trying to service them as fast as we can. After that, it’ll be a long well deserved break for the team and then we’ll boot up our machines again to work on the next things.”
Thus far, Larian Studios has released a patch for the game which correct a bug causing quick save files to become corrupted. Other bugs like path-finding issues and a lack of Journal updates for quests have also been reported but the game has seen a peak player count of over 85,000 in the past 24 hours. More updates are incoming though so stay tuned for more information.
