DOOM Co-Creator John Romero Teasing New Project

Romero Games seems to be counting down to DOOM's 25th anniversary- but why?

Industry rockstar John Romero, the co-creator of franchises such as DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein, and basically one of the founding father of the genre we now know as first person shooters, seems to be teasing a new announcement in the imminent future. As a user on Reddit pointed out, Romero Games, John Romero’s studio, recently sent out e-mails to people teasing an announcement.

The announcement seems to be counting down to the 25th anniversary of the first DOOM title, which is looming large, and Romero and his studio seem to be working their way toward an announcement to coincide with the date. “What looked like a countdown to DOOM’s birthday became suddenly mysterious,” the email reads.

What that announcement is is anyone’s best guess. Romero doesn’t work at id anymore, with Romero Games being an independent studio, so it’s hard to imagine it being DOOM-related (especially with DOOM Eternal already announced). It could be a shooter that specifically pays homage to DOOM and the DOOM brand of shooting and action. Or it could be something else entirely.

Either way, we should find out soon- the email mentions that an announcement will be made on Monday (which is today), so we don’t have to wait too long to find out. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we’ll keep you updated as the story develops.
