Dragon Quest Builders 2 Crosses 1.1 Million Units In Worldwide Shipments

The builder-RPG hybrid crosses a significant landmark.

Dragon Quest Builders 2, the sequel to the building offshoot of the role playing franchise from Square Enix, has passed a notable landmark. The company recently announced that the title has crossed 1.1 million units in shipments and digital sales worldwide, across both the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch (via Japanese Nintendo).

Dragon Quest Builders 2 launched for the PS4 and Switch in Japan in December of last year, before heading to the same platforms in the west in July this year. Dragon Quest isn’t a series that typically sells extremely well in the west – Dragon Quest Builders even less so – so it’s good to see it doing well. Of course, we don’t know how many of those 1.1 million sales came from the west and how many came from Japan, but it’s a notable landmark nonetheless.

In our review of the game, we said that Dragon Quest Builders 2 “does what any sequel should ideally do”, and that thanks to “a smarter UI, much-needed quality of life improvements, and a couple of new mechanics and features, it’s a much leaner, more organic, and more enjoyable Builders experience, and feels like a proper realization of the experiment that the first game was.” You can read our full review through here.
