Speaking to CVG, EA’s Frank Gibeau talked about how the developer has roughly “half a dozen” new IPs in development, and how they will make up the second wave of releases for next gen consoles such as the Xbox One and PS4.
“We’ve announced a couple of them, Mirror’s Edge and Battlefront, but we’ve also added some as well. The last time I spoke about this we hadn’t done the Star Wars deal, so there are those games too. We’re going to try and announce the new projects in the next couple of years – so in years two to three in the next-gen cycle, the plan is each year you’ll see one to two new IP from us coming out.
“This year we have new projects too – UFC is new to EA and of course there’s Titanfall.” Oddly, the publisher is also looking at Dragon Age: Inquisition as a new IP since it takes “a new approach” to the franchise. Other titles such as Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars: Battlefront are actually based on existing franchises, so we can’t really call them new IPs. Nonetheless, if inventive and entertaining titles are the result, who are we to complain?
