EA recently confirmed that newly established studio Cliffhanger Games is working on single player Black Panther game, though details on the game are currently scant, what with the project still being in the early stages of production. However, in the wake of the announcement, Cliffhanger Games has published multiple job ads on LinkedIn (spotted by Exputer) that include details on the title.
A listing for the position of Senior Game Designer seemingly confirms that the Black Panther title will be an open world game, which aligns with what leaks claimed prior to its official announcement. The listing states that the person in the role will help in “bringing a rich and dynamic game world to life” and work on “the design and structure of the world”, as well as “how the world is populated with memorable characters and enemies.”
Meanwhile, though EA has officially announced the Black Panther game as an action-adventure experience, a listing for the position of Software Engineer describes it as an action RPG.
It also mentions a new, “highly innovative” system for narrative design and presentation. Dubbed the “Open Story” system, the job ad describes it as the sum of “interconnected systems” revolving around dialogue and conversation systems. The listing also lists “experience with dynamic narrative, branching dialogue, interactive fiction a plus” as one of the role’s requirements.
Finally, a listing for the position of Senior Software Engineer indicates that the game is being built on Unreal Engine 5.
Though games developed by internal EA studios have traditionally used the company’s internal Frostbite engine for development of projects in the past, recent years have seen a shift in that, with the likes of the next Mass Effect game and Motive Studio’s Iron Man title also being built on Unreal Engine 5.
