Fallout 4: From Pre-War to Post Apocalypse

Returning to where it all began.

Bethesda Softworks’ next game in the eponymous Fallout series, namely Fallout 4, has gone unconfirmed for another week. While rumours surrounding the title were extremely hot around E3 – with speculation being that it would remain exclusive on Xbox One – things have cooled off significantly since. That doesn’t stop us from speculating and discussing what Fallout 4 could do in terms of location, premise and gameplay mechanics.

One interesting premise that’s been discussed would be to take control of your character a few days before the bombs drop, gathering supplies and finally seeking shelter in the event before facing the eventually post-apocalyptic wasteland. The idea is interesting because it entails meeting with other survivors, establishing the Vaults, witnessing the first Mutants to emerge from the rubble and fighting for survival against the more insane lot.

This is saying nothing about going topside to places that haven’t been affected by the nuclear fallout.

Could the game work under these circumstances, especially since it’s been more about discovering the post-apocalyptic world from the perspective of one who has never lived in it? It would certainly make for a fresher approach and flesh out the back-story surrounding the apocalypse. What are your thoughts on this premise for Fallout 4? Would you be willing to witness end of the world from the beginning and continue where Fallout 3 left off? Let us know in the comments below.
