Bethesda Softworks clarified not too long ago that the PC version of Fallout 4 wouldn’t simply have the installer available on disc. That isn’t to say it contains the full game, however. According to VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines on Twitter, players will still require downloads from Steam for the rest of the game.
“You will still have to download from Steam. The disc doesn’t contain the entire game.”
The console versions won’t have this problem though due to DRM and shipping on Blu-ray discs. “PC requires activation on Steam. Console does not. Console ship on Blu-rays, PC ships on DVDs.”
The issue is primarily due to piracy though and while many aren’t happy with this approach, Hines stated that, “Well we’ve been doing it this way more or less for 10+ years. Seems to be doing ok. Lots of people bought Skyrim, Wolfenstein, etc.”
Fallout 4 is out on November 10th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Still interested in the PC version? Let us know in the comments.
