So this looks pretty great right? Of course it does, it’s more Wolfenstein and that’s never a bad thing. I still have the originals at home, Wolfenstein’s just that good. But I ask you to consider this. Just what is the heavy hitter that Bethesda planning to pull out of the bag at E3 this year if the prequel to their smashing nazi killing first person shooter isn’t it?
Fallout 4 is the obvious choice for most gamers, the timing is right, the eighth generation of consoles are comfortably in people’s homes, technology for developing games is in a great place and there are more fans of Fallout than ever before. Taking to the stage and saying “war never changes” and playing a 10 second clip of a Vault door opening would be more than enough to ensure that there’s unparalleled levels of hyper for the post apocalyptic masterpiece that is Fallout. Peoples heads would explode. I mean it. Hell, my head would explode. It just makes sense.
They could of course spend the entire E3 conference, their very first one by the way, talking about The Elder Scrolls Online, which is soon to subscription free post purchase, but that would be a bit of waste don’t you think? What about The Elder Scrolls 6? That would be well received, surely? Well yes, but that would divert attention away from TESO, which they just cannot afford to do. Literally, they can’t afford it.
So what does that leave? Well there’s Battlecry, the free to play, team fortress 2-esque PvP first person shooter. That will surely make an appearance. Dishonored 2? Possibly. But leading up to last E3 Harvey Smith, Co-creative Director at Arkane Studios implied that Dishonored 2 isn’t happening any time soon. Though hopefully it is.
