Far Cry 5 Co-op Will Only Be Playable Online

Why...?

Far Cry 5 can be played entirely with a friend, co-op- which sounds incredibly awesome, and like the kind of thing that you are sure will give the game enduring appeal and replayability. Except… that co-op mode will only be available if you play online. If your friend happens to be in the same room as you, because you two are hanging out like normal human beings, then, well… yeah, you can’t play co-op.

Ubisoft confirmed this to Polygon in statement. Which is just great- I mean, I get that having online co-op is great, and I appreciate that. But why not have it be available offline, too? What is stopping that from happening? Why is splitscreen rapidly becoming a thing of the past? This is one thing that I appreciate Nintendo doing, in that they always support local play as well as online play.

Anyway, my interest in Far Cry 5 just plummeted. If you’re still interested in the game, it launches on February 27 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
