Far Cry 5 Dev: “The Way We Are Dealing With Characters Is Very Different”

This is not the definition of insanity.

For a while now, the trend for the Far Cry series has been to put one character front and centre of everything, as the ultimate focus of everything the game is working towards. Far Cry 3 did it with Vaas, while Far Cry 4 did it with Pagan Min. However, Far Cry 5, which already looks to be moving away from the trends set by the previous two games in so many respects, looks like it will have a much larger and a better developed cast of characters. At least that’s what Ubisoft hopes to accomplish.

Dan Hay, creative director of Far Cry 5, was recently asked in an interview with Hardcore Gamer how the development team had gotten better in terms working with technology at hand, and he said that is has affected not just the game world and the in-game environments, but also the characters as well.

“When you’re making games, you make mistakes and you try to figure out how to do stuff better.,” Hay said. “I think we’re getting really better at working with this technology. I think that with our world and the richness of it, we’re really making something beautiful and expansive.”

“The way we’re dealing with our characters is very different,” he continued. “In the past, we typically focused you on one character and you’d have a face-off against that character. Now, we want to put a concert of people in front of you so that you can have real moments with them.”

Far Cry 5 is launching for the PS4, Xbox One and PC in February of 2018. Stay tuned for more updates.
