The Nintendo Switch looks to be a dream machine- it is a system that will have all of Nintendo’s first party games on it, but it also looks like it will have third parties lining up to develop for it, too. One of the third parties confirmed to be supporting the system is Square Enix, whose presence on Nintendo’s list of third party partners for the system raised some eyebrows- would the Switch be getting some Final Fantasy games, too, then?
According to Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy 15, maybe. In an interview with French gaming site Gameblog.fr, Tabata expressed his admiration of the machine, also revealing his enthusiasm for potentially developing for it.
“It is a machine that interests me enormously! Not just as a player, but also as a developer,” Tabata said.“Nintendo Switch has a controller that can turn into joystick, which can be put in a base, which can move… the controller is so flexible,” he enthused about its unique input elements.
If this is the case, then, could we see a Switch version of Final Fantasy 15? Tabata does not rule out that opportunity. “It’s been a while since I got to do games on a Nintendo machine, so if Nintendo Switch gives me that opportunity, I would be delighted!”
Hopefully, it does just that, then. Final Fantasy returning to Nintendo would truly be a momentous occasion. Nintendo Switch launches worldwide on March 2017.
