Final Fantasy 15 May Eventually Come to PC

"We'll definitely take a good, hard look at PC."

Yesterday was Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Uncovered event, which, incredibly enough, made it seem as though the long awaited Final Fantasy 15 may actually end up living up to the ten years of hype that has led up to it. Square seems to be going all out on ensuring that the launch of the next title in their flagship event is a veritable event- but it’s an event that PC players will have to sit out on, as, contrary to all expectations and evidence, it seems like the game is skipping out on a PC launch for now.

However, speaking to Engadget, director Hajime Tabata said that that could change in the future- the team is aware of the call for a PC version, and while it has chosen to focus on the console versions for now, Tabata did say that a PC version remains a distinct possibility going forward.

“Unfortunately we weren’t able to do simultaneous development on a PC and console version for XV,” he said. “We had to focus on the console version and our goal was to maximize, optimize everything for the HD consoles. Once that’s done, then we will definitely take a good, hard look at PC and what we need to do, and consider all our options. But right now we aren’t decided, we’re still considering a lot of things.”

In a sense, I can understand his reasoning- at this point, I am sure he is just desperate to get the game out already, and if that meant prioritizing the originally targeted platforms for the time being, I’m not sure I can fault that reasoning.

Final Fantasy 15 will launch on September 30 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
