Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has Not Met Sales Target – Square Enix President

Square Enix has revealed that the game didn't have the sales momentum to hit internal sales targets.

Square Enix seems to have been disappointed by the sales of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. According to Bloomberg, company president Takashi Kiryu revealed to analysts after its earnings call that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was unable to reach the launch momentum required to hit internal targets.

It is worth noting that Square Enix hasn’t actually revealed how many copies Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth sold, nor has it revealed what the sales target that it failed to hit was.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was released back in February exclusively on PS5. This new report of the game not hitting internal sales target comes shortly after it was revealed that the game was the fourth best-selling game of 2024 in the US.

When it comes to the entire franchise, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth currently sits at 14th place in sales figures in the US. For context, 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the second-best selling game in the franchise in the region.

Earlier reports indicated that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had only sold half of the copies that Final Fantasy 7 Remake had sold in the same time frame. This is despite the game also being the second best-selling game of February in the US.
