Several new details and gameplay for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are available following various hands-on impressions and previews. Thanks to an interview with Game Informer, the team has confirmed that Vincent Valentine will not be playable.
Appearing briefly in last week’s release date announcement trailer, Vincent joins the group during the story but will only accompany them like Red XIII in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Creative director Tetsuya Nomura explained that he joined during the story’s backend in the original game.
Nomura hinted last week that accompanying characters will become official party members in the sequel. If that’s the case with Vincent, the team may want to fully flesh out his abilities where it makes sense in the story. Regardless, players will have Cait Sith and Red XIII to control, each with unique mechanics, and there are new Synergy Abilities to experiment with.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is available on February 29th, 2024, for PS5. It will take up 150 GB of space on two Blu-ray discs, but you won’t have to swap between them while playing.
