Like all remakes, the upcoming hotly anticipated remake of Final Fantasy 7 is going to see a lot of changes. The fact that it’s coming out in parts, for one, will ensure that the game will be hugely different on a fundamental level than the PlayStation original. Another way it’ll be different? The voice of the main character, Cloud Strife.
While Cloud didn’t have a voice in the original game (being released before voice over was standard for RPGs- or games in general), he has since been given one in the various spin-offs and cameos that he’s been featured in. The man doing that voice: Steve Burton. The first time Cloud spoke was with Burton’s voice was in Kingdom Hearts all the way back in 2002. He’s since gone on to voice Cloud in multiple games, all the way up to last year’s Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.
In a Twitter video, however, Burton confirmed the news that we would no longer be voicing the iconic character. He also wished Cody Christian, the man who will take over the role, luck and thanked fans for their supports.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and its new Cloud, will come out March 3, 2020 for PlayStation 4. Check the various editions of the game will have here.
