With all the anticipation that surrounds the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake (it’s been at the top of the most wanted Famitsu charts for about thousand years now), it can almost be easy to forget it is actually the first part of an episodic release. The game coming out this year is only the first of an undefined amount of instalments. The first entry saw a delay not too long ago, but according to Square Enix, that won’t impact the next part.
During an investor Q&A, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda was asked if the new release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake will impact the next instalment. He calmly answered, “No, it will not.” Seems pretty straightforward, but considering how the first part was delayed, it’s obvious the company is open to delays if they’re needed, so you never know.
Square Enix has revealed that part 2 in the series is in development, and also that they don’t plan to release next generation exclusives for some time, so it may even come out on current systems. But we have to walk before we can run, and the first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake releases on April 10th.
