Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of the most anticipated games of the next year. The remake of the RPG has been one many fans have been eagerly awaiting, and Square has been marketing it since its re-reveal at this year’s E3. A new piece of marketing is out, and it’s…well, it’s different. Yeah, we’ll go with different.
During a Japanese sports broadcast, Square aired a 7 minute commercial, making it technically the longest broadcast commercial in Japanese history. But it didn’t highlight the game exactly. Instead the commercial is basically a live action short, in which a young office worker who isn’t familiar with the original game has conversations about its legacy with his co-workers and girlfriend until finally discovering it for himself. There’s some brief footage of the remake at the end to top it off. That’s actually the short version, as the full unedited version is 13 minutes.
It’s an interesting way to market something and to highlight the legacy the game has, as also evident by the original game’s sales. Unfortunately, as of now it’s only available in Japanese with Japanese subtitles. Whether Square will make one with English subtitles is unknown, but you can check them both out below.
