For Honor Alpha Facing Matchmaking Issues Due to P2P – Report

Ubisoft's slasher apparently doesn't use dedicated servers.

Ubisoft Montreal’s For Honor will be going into beta testing next month but the hack and slash title but the closed alpha is currently live for a small number of PC users. That being said, things aren’t going so hot.

According to a Reddit user who broke the NDA on the alpha, For Honor is suffering from matchmaking issues. This is because the game lacks dedicated servers for its matchmaking and instead relies on peer-to-peer matchmaking.

Though peer-to-peer matchmaking isn’t the worst option in the world, it depends solely on the connection of the host that players are connecting to. Depending on skill rating, connection quality and other factors, players could face tons of issues even getting into a match. Plus, that’s not counting all the games these days that use dedicated servers to reliable effect.

With For Honor releasing in February 2017, having dedicated servers at launch could be a pipe dream. We’ll see how Ubisoft responds but in the meantime, let us know what you think of For Honor only having peer-to-peer matchmaking in the comments.
