For Honor Dev Addresses Microtransactions, Further Angers Fans

Players apparently meant to play only 1 to 3 characters.

It’s no secret that Ubisoft’s For Honor has microtransactions which consist of spending real money on Steel. Steel is necessary for unlocking cosmetics for all characters along with end-game items that are pretty essential against better geared players.

However, given the meager amount of Steel doled out from regular play, you can either invest a ton of time for unlocks or drop as much as $700 on Steel (as per one Redditor).

Unfortunately, Ubisoft Montreal game director Damien Kieken has addressed concerns and it’s not the answer many fans would like. Kieken compared the items in the store to those obtained in an RPG like World of Warcraft.

“We never had an intention for you to unlock everything in the game. In World of Warcraft, you would never try to unlock everything for all the characters of the whole game. Same for any MOBA, you’re not trying to unlock all the content for all the characters in the game.”

It also doesn’t help that the director expected players to only play 1 to 3 characters (which is apparently what happened). “The design is based around that. The cosmetic items are really for us the end-game content: the things we want you to unlock after playing for several weeks.”
