Former Sony WWS Head Says Insomniac Acquisition Was One of His Greatest Achievements

Former Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden thinks highly of the Spider-Man devs.

Shawn Layden left his position as the chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios few months back, but he’s still been pretty active on Twitter, as far as talking about things related to Sony first parties is concerned. After recently talking up the upcoming release of Media Molecule’s Dreams, Layden took to Twitter once again yesterday to talk about another Sony studio.

Insomniac Games, developers of the likes of Ratchet and Clank and Spider-Man, officially became a Sony first party following their acquisition in 2019, and Layden got to reminiscing about that, calling it “one of the greatest achievements” he was associated during his entire tenure at PlayStation. Looking at the talent on offer at that studio and their track record, it’s easy to see why he feels that way.

While Insomniac Games will most likely be focused entirely on a sequel to Spider-Man which might be out as early as late next year – they might have other irons in the fire as well. Reports last year suggested that new Ratchet and Clank game is in the works, while Sony has also confirmed that it holds the rights to the Sunset Overdrive property, which fans will be hoping to see them do something with.
