Epic Games’ Fortnite: Battle Royale has been a strong success for the company, much more so than its PvE-focused “Save The World” mode, and the developer has been capitalizing by offering consistent updates. The next update, due in the coming week, will actually change the most fundamental part of the Battle Royale experience – the map.
In a recent video, lead designer Eric Williamson revealed that new points of interest, like a city and junkyard, and some new named areas would be added to the map. “We felt [the west] was a little bit light on points of interest, so we wanted to even the island out and make it feel like there were more locations to drop into,” said Williamson.
He also said there would be more defined “biomes” so you’ll actually find the swamp to be “swampier” and the mountains to reflect real-world mountains. More quality of life improvements are also on the way. Recently, the game received a new silenced pistol and time-limited mode focused on stealth using it, the silenced SMG and the bush. As for when the map changes go live, stay tuned for more information this week.
