Fortnite: Battle Royale Won’t Add Vehicles to Map

Lead designer feels the travel times on foot are just right for the experience.

It’s a big week for Epic Games’ Fortnite: Battle Royale. The free to play title passed more than 40 million downloads yesterday, which is up from 30 million in December 2017, and recently saw 2 million concurrent players over the weekend. While a map update is out later this week, don’t count on something like vehicles being added in the future.

According to lead designer Eric Williamson while speaking to Rolling Stone, vehicles are unnecessary since players can get pretty much anywhere on foot in decent time. “We don’t have a need to add vehicles to get around the map because our travel times allow you to get mostly wherever you want to go.”

Fortnite: Battle Royale’s “map 2.0” update brings quite a lot to the forefront. New areas like the junkyard and city are being added along with more defined biomes that should make certain areas stand out more. You can expect the western side of the map to have more going on, thus balancing it out with other areas.

Recently, Epic Games also patched an exploit in Fatal Fields that saw players killing others while glitching underneath the map. Expect more information on when the map update goes live later in the week.
