Fortnite Got PS4-Xbox One Cross Platform Play For A Few Hours Due To A ‘Configuration Error’

True cross platform play remains elusive- for now.

Even as Microsoft, Valve, and even Nintendo, have all been making strides towards the cross platform play future, Sony has obstinately refused to play ball, not allowing for cross platform play in games between its platforms, and other consoles (though Sony seems to be fine with PC and PS4 cross platform play, at the very least).

However, earlier today, momentarily, cross platform play between Xbox One and PS4 was enabled for a few hours in the Epic game Fortnite– leading many to speculate that Sony may have finally capitulated to the whims and demands of its vocal fanbase on this issue.

As it turns out, that was not the case- instead, the lapse can be attributed to something as mundane as a “configuration error”, according to Epic Games themselves. “We had a configuration issue and it has now been corrected,” they said to DualShockers in a statement regarding the incident.

So… that’s that. Unfortunately, true cross platform play remains a pipedream- for now. Hopefully Sony will come around to this sooner rather than later.
