The Xbox 360 is a barren wasteland this year, as far as having core exclusives goes, but one shining beacon- Forza 4- is due to hit the console later this year. For those of you who might inexplicably have been fearing Gran Turismo 5-esque delays for Turn 10’s racer, worry not- they have confirmed that the game is only five weeks away from completion.
Speaking to CVG, Turn 10’s Greenawalt said, “Right now, we’re just heading into finalising the game ahead to certification, which is making sure we’re complying with [Microsoft’s rules] on the box. There’s about five or so weeks until we submit the finished game.”
In way of more good news, it was finally confirmed that nighttime racing, the omission of which formed the apex of one of the few criticisms that could be leveled at Forza 3, is in fact being fully incorporated into this game.
“Our new lighting engine allows us to do alternate times of day. We have a choice number of tracks that are available in kind of an alternate trim, where you start seeing sun rise and sunset at a very oblique angles. That changes the light on the car and change the light in your eyes as you’re racing.”
Greenawalt appears to be very confident about the new game, saying that the graphics in particular, will immediately stand out.
“We saw that at E3,” he commented. “People are really stunned by what we’ve been able to achieve with an engine that shipped in the box twice previously.”
Forza 4 looks to be shaping up well. We’ll have more coverage, including a full review of the game when it launches in October, for you in the coming months. Stay tuned.
