Look, the Forza developers are excited about the Xbox One X- I get that. I do. I understand that, because it’s a reasonably exciting piece of hardware. But they’ve already put their foot in their mouth once before with their ‘highest quality pixels’ comment, so you’d think they’d be more careful about what they say going forward.
Nope! Forza 7 Software Architect Chris Tector said in an interview with Eurogamer that Forza 7 on Xbox One X can substitute for the experience you would otherwise have to pay thousands of dollars for on PC. “Rather than hoping you can afford a multi-thousand dollar PC that can achieve it, we’re going to have people playing at console, native 4K, 60 frames a second,” he said.
Which is… well, for starters, PCs really are not that expensive, and an equivalent PC to the Xbox One X would be a few hundred dollars more. Secondly, if he were talking about the performance that Forza 7 can achieve on a multi thousand dollar PC, then no, the Xbox One X is not a system that would be able to achieve it- certainly not with its crippled, bottlenecked CPU, no.
Guys, the Xbox One X is truly great- but maybe rein in the hyperbole a bit?
