Gamers are likely to hold onto their Nintendo Switch this holiday season according to GameStop’s interim CEO Daniel DeMatteo. With a great line-up of large games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and more, the Switch has been enjoying great success and has also been selling really well.
During their quarterly financial conference for analysts and investors, GameStop revealed that the Switch resales will work differently than the Xbox One and PS4. When these two consoles had entered the market four years earlier, people were quick to shift from one to another. This was because the two consoles were largely similar in terms of technology, had a similar line-up of games (other than the games) and had the same online offerings.
GameStop predicts that the Switch will enter pre-owned business in a meaningful way only by the latter half of 2018. If Nintendo keeps releasing high quality games for the console, then it will be difficult for the pre-owned business to have any impact.
