Nintendo Predicts Selling 16.74 Million Units of Switch By March 31st, 2018

This is a dramatic increase in Nintendo’s forecast thanks to the strong line-up of games on the console.

According to Nintendo’s financial results, the Switch is predicted to sell a total of 16.74 million units by the end of this fiscal year, that is, by March 31st, 2018. This means that the Switch console will have sold more than the Wii U through its entire lifetime if this prediction comes to fruition. The Wii U had sold a total of only 13.56 million units from its launch in 2012 until March of this year.

The sale of the Switch console has been adversely affected due to a shortage of supply in several countries including Japan. Despite this, it has been an excellent financial year for Nintendo thanks to a strong line-up of games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS and Splatoon 2 each of which have sold more than a million units.

With the release of Super Mario Odyssey and upcoming releases such as Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and other games from third-party developers, it would be fair to predict that Nintendo will continue selling hardware and software really well throughout the year.
