Gears of War 3 was met with astounding praise- we gave it 10/10 ourselves- and performed strongly when it comes to sales as well, selling 3 million in its first week and taking the total of the Gears of War franchise to 16 million units sold worldwide. We, along with a ton of other people, thought it was the best game in the series, better even than the revolutionary first game. And so does Epic.
Epic Games thinks Gears of War 3 is the best game in the Gears trilogy, even though it has the lowest Metacritic score in the series (92). “We feel really good,” Rod Fergusson, director of production at Epic Games told IGN. “I think everybody pretty much agrees that it’s the best Gears game we’ve ever made. I think the Metacritic is slightly lower, but that’s just when you go back six years, the number of sites, the types of people, and the industry’s changing.
“You can’t really use the Metacritic score to reflect that. I think you’d be pretty hard-pressed to look at Gears 3 and not see it as the best of the series.”
