Gears of War 4 MP Beta Had More Than 1.6 Million Players

Microsoft expects it to be "the biggest game of the year".

Microsoft has announced that the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta on Xbox One had more than 1.6 million unique players during its two week duration. The beta started out for those who had played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and but eventually included all Xbox Live Gold subscribers on Xbox One.

Microsoft stated that it expects the upcoming sequel to be the “biggest game of the year”. Addressing the NPD’s April 2016 report, Microsoft said it was the “best month in history for global engagement on Xbox One.”

“It’s a great time for the industry, and we thank our fans for their continued support. We look forward to sharing more on our vision and plans for continuing to deliver the best gaming experience on Xbox One, Windows 10, and Xbox Live this year at E3 in June.”

Though Gears of War 4 will release on October 11th for Xbox One, the publisher noted that a PC version could be “possible.”
