Geoff Keighley knows things. People might point to the infamous controversy that seemed to tie his coverage directly to the brands he promotes, but the long and short of it is, one way or the other, he knows what is going on in the industry. He has insider information. And on the latest episode of the podcast [transcribed by DualShockers] that Xbox’s Major Nelson holds, he dropped some hints about what we could expect from Microsoft’s E3 conference this year, which the company has gone on record as saying will be a big one.
“I could tell that he [Xbox Division’s new head Phil Spencer] was certainly thinking about how important it was for him to have a great E3 and for this team to have a great E3. I know everyone here seems really energized about showing a lot of great content,” he began.
“And yeah, I think it’s gonna be a good E3. You know, my sense right now is we’re gonna see some games that are coming this year but there’s gonna be a lot of stuff that is 2015 and beyond from all the companies.
“What’s exciting about E3 is that you’re gonna get a taste of what this year is, but also hopefully a little bit of a longer roadmap. Because you know, part of what happens what happens with, I think, Xbox and Sony, last year you were driving so many games towards launch… There was a crazy number of games coming at launch and there’s a little bit of a lull with all the companies now, because “hey we’ve pushed everything for launch, now we have to recycle all these new games coming.” So I hope we get a preview of a lot of that stuff from Phil.”
Of course, you need to remember that since he was in fact on Microsoft’s own podcast, everything he was saying was stuff that was directly or indirectly approved by Microsoft. In that, either Microsoft told him to hype the conference up, or more likely, he hyped it up of his own accord, and Microsoft did not edit it out, meaning they do want to get the word out that this upcoming conference is one for the ages.
We’ll find out soon either way. E3 is just a few weeks away after all. In the mean time check out this for a list of things that Microsoft could announce at E3.
