Ghost Recon: Wildlands Will Have Bolivia’s 11 Ecosystems

Which will lead to some very diverse play styles.

Ubisoft’s upcoming Ghost Recon game, Wildlands, looks to be the most ambitious entry in that series yet. With a fully diverse range of environments, and a full open world, and an intermeshing of those systems with diverse and dynamic time of the day and weather systems, Wildlands looks set to be the paragon of emergent gameplay- at least as far as Ubisoft are concerned.

In an interview with Pixel Vulture, Tom Isaksen, Senior Character Artist for Ghost Recon: Wildlands elaborated on just how the game, with its recreation of Bolivia, where it is set, will offer a wide range of dynamic play styles.

“It is interesting because [Bolivia is] not well-known,” Isaksen said. “[Wildlands] is an authentic reconstruction of the country, and sure it is still a fantasy, but we really tried to create an authentic Bolivia. Hopefully once you have played it, you will want to go there because it is a very diverse country with 11 different ecosystems. That along with the game’s full day/night cycle, will change your gameplay completely. Playing missions at night will change your approach to the mission as AI will have different patterns, and enemies will be in different locations.”

That sounds rather exciting to me. I can’t wait to see if the final game lives up to this billing. Ghost Recon: Wildlands is due out next year on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
