Next year we are going to get a new installment in the Ghostbusters film franchise. The movie will be a direct continuation of the original films, not a reboot like the 2016 one, something that hardcore fans have wanted to see for a long time, but has never happened for various reasons. But before that film comes out, there was a de facto third film in Atari’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game. It took place not long after the events of Ghostbusters 2, and actually had most of the original Ghostbusters cast in both voice acting and motion captured roles, including all the original Ghostbusters themselves. It was well received, and due to the passing of Harold Ramis, it was also the final time that that could happen. It could be coming back though, if a leak about a remastered version is accurate.
The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee rated Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered for Xbox One earlier in the week, which you can check the listing for here. The specification in the title is also key, as Activision released game based on the franchise in 2016, but that game was simply titled Ghostbusters (it was also released on current hardware, so it’s doubtful a re-release would be in the works under a ‘remaster’ moniker).
Ghostbusters: The Video Game originally released a decade ago in 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. There were also versions for the Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable released that utilized a more stylized look. Like all leaks of this nature, we have to file it under speculation for now, but considering the new film coming next year that continues the original canon, it’s definitely not too far-fetched.
