God of War has historically been extremely strong in North America, but on the flip side, weaker in the rest of the world (especially Europe and Japan), which has, until now, limited the series’ appeal compared to something like Uncharted or Horizon.
However, this new game may be reversing that trend- it already got a series best launch in the U.K., and now, according to Gfk-Tracker (via ResetEra), it seems like it has also had the second best launch for a Sony first party game ever in Spain- behind only Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Yes, that means it had a better launch week than Horizon: Zero Dawn or The Last of Us. In fact, with 67,000 units sold, it’s also outperformed every single first party Xbox game so far in Spain- it seems like this is finally the game that makes the series strike a chord with audiences worldwide.
God of War is available now on PS4 exclusively.
