God of War – New Video Talks About the Process of Creating the Sounds of Mythical Midgard

Sony has put out a new video that goes over a behind-the-scenes look at the game's sound design.

From the thumping sounds of Kratos’ axe to the deep reverberating roars of the World Serpent to the desolate silence of Midgard and the Lake of Nine, the phenomenal 2018 title God of War was a game that exuded a sense of extreme polish and imagination in its sound design- just as much as it did in every other aspect of the entire experience. A new video put out by Sony takes a behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating those sounds.

The video features Mike Niederquell, lead sound designer on God of War, and Cory Barlog, director of the game, talking about the process of creating the game’s sounds, about the very particular vision the team had about how certain things need to sound (especially the World Serpent), and how sometimes Cory Barlog would tell Niederquell that he wants things to sounds like “whoosh!” and “wham!” Take a look below.

God of War developers (mostly Barlog) have been talking about the game’s development quite a bit in the past few weeks and months, such as why they didn’t make the game open world. Meanwhile, production on the sequel might also be ramping up.
