Sony today announced God of War, a brand new title in their long running franchise. The new game looks to be a reboot of the series, eschewing the action game direction the franchise had been going in over the last few installments, and returning more to the adventure game feeling of the original game.
Cory Balrog has confirmed in an interview with Geoff Keighley that the new game will be set in Norse mythology (this was something we weren’t entirely sure of, because the reveal didn’t make that explicitly clear), and, contrary to what you may have thought, it will not be open world- though Balrog did say it will be big. At the very least, it looks open-ish, and it looks like the areas we are playing in will be big, with no pre-defined linear paths like before. Balrog also confirmed that QTEs this time will be different than they were in previous games.
A few things remain unanswered- such as how the hell Kratos got into the Nordic world, and how he’s mellowed down so much. We have been told it will be set many years after God of War 3– but how do we get from there to here? But hey, there’s a lot of time to the game’s release (which is confirmed to not be this year), so I am sure we will know eventually.
