God of War Ragnarok – Behind-the-Scenes Video Outlines Filming Process Through the Pandemic

The first episode in the development series discusses the unique ways that Santa Monica Studio filmed various scenes during the pandemic.

Ahead of its launch next month, Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok has a new series of behind-the-scenes videos outlining the development process. The first is about “Shaping the Story” and recounts events from God of War (2018) while highlighting the story creation process of the second. Check it out below.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the delay from last year, is also discussed. It started shooting was ongoing, and though a good amount of content was filmed, the studio had to get creative. This involved having some actors serve as background characters for other scenes to limit the number of people on set.

No cinematics were changed, though. There were issues with Sunny Suljic (who voices Atreus) since his voice changed dramatically through the years-long filming process. The team thus had to “even out the performance” to make it sound like it took place over a short period, which was a “unique challenge.”

God of War Ragnarok is out on November 9th for PS4 and PS5. Previews arrive on October 21st while reviews go live on November 3rd, 9 AM PDT. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
