Earlier today, speculation broke out that the upcoming God of War may have microtransactions in some capacity. It wouldn’t be totally out of character for Sony, who have often had microtransactions in flagship first party titles such as Uncharted and Gran Turismo– still, for many, it came as a disappointment, especially since fans look to Sony as one of the last companies still investing in high quality single player content.
That disappointment was unfounded- responding to a concerned fan on Twitter, God of War director Cory Barlog confirmed that the upcoming game will not have microtransactions in any capacity. Any costumes you can purchase in game, then, will presumably be obtainable only via currency you can earn in game, and nothing else.
God of War will launch exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on April 20; the new game is the first major game in the series since 2013’s Ascension, and the first mainline title since 2010’s God of War 3.
