Along with announcing that the next God of War was delayed to 2022 and that it would be coming to PS4, PlayStation Studios’ head Hermen Hulst also confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 is PS4-bound as well. In an interview with PlayStation Blog regarding the PS4 being a focus internally for future game development, Hulst said, “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 – for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, Gran Turismo 7 – we’ll continue looking at that.
“And if PlayStation 4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PlayStation 5 version, that game will be there for them.” It’s worth noting that, unlike the next God of War, Gran Turismo 7 was cited as releasing exclusively to PS5. Of course this is before the title was delayed to 2022 due to production challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. It also be a question of not wanting the team to crunch on the title to ensure that it meets release deadlines.
In the meantime, Gran Turismo 7 is still planned to take advantage of the PS5 in every way possible with ray tracing, 4K/60 FPS performance while HDR is enabled and much more. Stay tuned for more details on the title in the coming months.
