Sony’s slate of 2021 releases for the PS5 is looking pretty strong, with the likes of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7 all scheduled to launch this year. At least one of those games, however, won’t be able to hit its intended release date.

Answering a question about what the release schedule looks like for the upcoming racing sim in an interview with GQ, a PlayStation PR representative confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed from 2021 into 2022. The reason? As you’d expect, “COVID-related production challenges” have thrown a wrench into the works, leading to this delay.

GT7 has been impacted by COVID-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022,” Sony says. “With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”

Given that we’re still in the midst of a pandemic, it’s not surprising that production on several games is being impacted, and delays for any game aren’t really coming as a major surprise just now. Already, there have been more than a few major delays, and it’s likely that there will be several more in the coming months.

Whenever Gran Turismo 7 releases, it will be a PS5 exclusive, and make full use of the DualSense’s unique features. The game will also run at 4K at 60 FPS with ray-tracing.
